Why Sydney is going for bold
Article Abstract:
A 750 ha area of industrial wasteland in Sydney, Australia, is to be used as the site for the 2000 Olympic Games. The main stadium, designed by Bligh Lobb, will seat 110,000. The development also includes an equestrian centre, exhibition halls and archery parks. This project can be seen as one of the largest urban regeneration schemes of the 20th century. Significant emphasis is being placed on ensuring that the project will bring long-term benefits to the city.

Urban hymns from politicians are not going to save our cities
Article Abstract:
The UK government will face difficult decisions if it is to make significant progress with reviving urban infrastructure and halting suburban sprawl. It will be necessary to develop integrated transport solutions, as well as offering tax breaks to encourage town dwellers to move to neglected areas. The government has presented a vision of regenerated inner city areas, but cannot achieve this without making substantial investment.
