Still in office, but out of power
Article Abstract:
Many politicians are unpopular in 1993, especially Chancellor Helmut Kohl of Germany and Prime Minister John Major of the UK. The Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa was thrown out and Italian politicians were accused of corruption. This is partly caused by the recession. Politicians always promise improvements, but the economy is global and individual countries cannot oppose market trends. Democratic accountability is needed. Economic decisions are made by investors and bureaucrats rather than by political leaders.

The West's cynical game is up
Article Abstract:
The West originally demanded that Yugoslavia's republics stay united but the people of Slovenia and Croatia wanted independence. The West's policies gave Yugoslavia the wrong message. The EC tried to deal with the conflict, ignoring Nato and the Council of Europe, but had no resources. Four peace-keeping forces had to be assembled. Enforcement of the no-fly zone does not help remove Serbian occupation.
