Strong pound sends shellfish to the depths
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom shellfish industry has been hit by the strength of pound sterling which has led to concerns about bankruptcies among fishermen and wholesalers. There are estimates of half the fishermen and merchants leaving the sector by year-end 1997. Exports account for most of the UK's shellfish production. UK interest is increasing but not enough to offset lost sales abroad, and prices are falling. Fishmongers have closed and few UK supermarkets operate fresh fish counters.

Decoding the enigma of the sudden emergence of the male torso
Article Abstract:
It has now become just as common for the male body to appear in advertisements in the UK as the female body. There has been a growing realization that men's bodies can be just as sexy as women's bodies. This trend is putting men under increasing pressure to consider their body image, and has led to a rise in eating disorders among men. The shift towards sexy male imagery is a reflection of the growing financial independence of women and of a freer society.
