Article Abstract:
Singer James Brown played a role in creating soul music out of gospel and rhythm and blues in the 1950s. He was also responsible for the creation of funk in the 1960s, and it could be argued that he was the driving force behind the genre now known as dance music. The origins of the British dance music scene can be mainly found in the Rare Groove movement of the early and mid-1980s. This movement largely consists of old James Brown music and funk records derived from his music.
