Tesco keeps up battle on cheap designer goods
Article Abstract:
Despite last month's European Court ruling that retailers may not sell designer goods bought on the so-called 'grey market', UK supermarket Tesco will sell designer items in two designated stores at Pitsea, Essex and New Malden, Surrey. Here, Levi's 501 jeans, Adidas sportswear and household and electrical goods will be sold at cut-prices. In addition, Tesco is to sell Premiership football team kits for GB 33, GB 12 less than the standard price. Meanwhile, UK supermarket Asda also intends to offer a range of grey market goods including watches, perfumes, bags ties and sunglasses at one of its stores, though has not specified which brands will be sold.

In search of a shopping identity
Article Abstract:
Sainsury's, Tesco, Asda and Safeway, the UK's leading supermarket chains, have begun to use design as a key element in creating brand loyalty. They are now strongly aware of the need to convey a consistent, attractive image in which consumers feel they can participate. They all offer very similar products and services, and must therefore distinguish themselves from their competitors through store design and layout.
