MI6 supplied parts to Argentine navy
Article Abstract:
It has been revealed that MI6, the UK's Secret Intelligence Service, went against the embargo on UK military sales to Argentina which was imposed after the Falklands war by supplying spare parts to the Argentine navy. A television programme to be broadcast shortly claims that Clive Russell, MI6's representative in Argentina in 1987 when the Argentine navy was facing a shortage of spare parts for the Rolls-Royce engines which drove the UK ships it ordered in 1970, was encouraged to help Argentina as a way of gaining access to the heart of the Argentine military-industrial operation.

Peace deal sends village fleeing for safety
Article Abstract:
Many inhabitants of the Croat village of Majdan, situated between Mrkonjic Grad and Jajce, are preparing to leave before it is returned to Bosnian Serb rule under the Dayton peace agreement. They fear that they will be in danger as the Bosnian Serbs return, pointing out that many Serb villages in the area have been destroyed by the Croats, possibly prompting retribution. They do not feel that the British troops stationed there will offer adequate protection.

English lessons open doors to Nato
Article Abstract:
A group of 120 soldiers from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, who make up the new Baltic peacekeeping battalion, are receiving training in basic military issues from 14 Royal Marines and in English from British Council tutors. This will bring them up to the standards which are required to join Nato operations. On completion of the course, the battalion will probably be split into three separate companies and used in UN peacekeeping work.
