The Peaches and Belles of baseball
Article Abstract:
The film 'A League of Their Own' portrays the All American Girls Professional Baseball League which was set up in 1944 by Philip Wrigley to keep baseball clubs open while the men were away at war. A team of ten was assembled, beginning with more softball than hardball rules. They were accompanied in the Mid-West cities Rockford, Racine, South Bend and Kenosha by a chaperone. Every season the girls had to attend charm school. They were required to use make-up and have shoulder-length hair. Drinking, smoking and wearing slacks, shorts or jeans were forbidden.

Article Abstract:

The end of Communism has left an ideological void, and many people fear for the country's future. There is no mass sense of outrage about Russia's past mistakes, and many people feel that they do not need to reject the past when there are still so many problems in the present, despite government promises of reform.
