The art of being Arto
Article Abstract:
Composer, singer and guitarist Arto Lindsay feels that he cannot really play any instruments properly. When he formed the group DNA, he was not aware that his guitar playing was similar to that of free-jazz guitarists such as Fred Frith and Derek Bailey. He believes that his methods have not really changed since his time with DNA, and feels that he has to a certain extent always worked with a crude concept of contrast.

Multiculturalism and all that jazz
Article Abstract:
Pianist and composer Daniel Barenboim feels that he is free to become involved in projects he finds interesting or amusing. For this reason, he is not really concerned about what people think of his album 'Tribute to Ellington.' He believes that jazz and classical music have common elements, although classical musicians take some time to come to terms with jazz music. He feels that he is learning to improvise.
