Many of the children who will be spending Christmas 1997 in a UK hospital will have to do so alone, without the constant presence of a parent. For young children, facing hospital alone can bring a basic loss of trust. They feel that they are no longer protected from a terrifying experience, and become full of fear and anger. Those who have to spend a long time in hospital can become very emotionally withdrawn. It is also important to be aware that there can be some disadvantages associated with constant parental presence. In many cases, parents feel guilty and do not know when it would be appropriate to leave their child.

Police have over recent years begun to focus on women in their investigations, and this has led to a sharp rise in the number of arrests. State witnesses have testified that women are involved in Mafia activity in many different ways, including ordering hits and organizing prison break-outs.
