Online bookstore Amazon.com generates more than $300,000 per year in revenues per operating employee, compared with around $95,000 for a conventional bookstore, according to Jeff Bezos, the company's founder and chief executive. He has been extremely successful in selling the dream of online commerce, and is now close to becoming a paper billionaire. He was very keen to set up in business on his own, but was careful to take very considered decisions. He identified online retailing as a key future development, and then looked at 20 different products.
