Strong pound brings Britons bargain breaks
Article Abstract:
The pound is likely to remain strong until the end of 1998, bringing considerable benefits for UK consumers. Goods such as footwear and clothing will not necessarily become cheaper, but consumers will obtain better quality for the same price. There will be bargains for holidaymakers in summer 1998, especially in Greece and South-east Asia. Travel agents report that city breaks to European cities are also proving popular because of the strength of the pound.

Designer stores fight to survive
Article Abstract:
Many designer stores opened in London, England, between 1990 and 1997, and rents in popular locations such as Bond Street rose significantly during this time. However, these stores are now attracting fewer customers, and analysts believe that the market has peaked. Stores in high-profile locations are now being increasingly regarded as a promotional vehicle for designer labels, rather than as a way of making money.
