The knight of a thousand stars
Article Abstract:
Chichester Festival Theatre certainly tends to stick to popular drama, as its critics point out, but this is because it must please audiences in order to make money, according to actor Sir Derek Jacobi, who has become the theatre's artistic director. Some observers believe that it risky to have an actor in charge of a financially weak enterprise, but in this case the danger is minimised by the presence of West End theatre producer Duncan Weldon, who is overseeing Jacobi's work.

Exit the man in black
Article Abstract:
Peter Hall has recently returned to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), where he was artistic director in 1958-1968. He was responsible for making the RSC a national company and for making the National Theatre a key part of culture in the UK. His work has always had a high degree of inspiration, and he has a natural ability to control the performance. His latest project is 'Julius Caesar,' which he is directing for the first time.

Stephen Daldry has been the victim of a poison pen campaign, was responsible for the most 'disgusting' play of the year and has just been given 16m pounds sterling. And nobody has a bad word to say about him
Article Abstract:
Theatre producer Stephen Daldry has gained a reputation for devising extremely ambitious schemes. The latest of these is the complete modernisation and refurbishment of the Royal Court theatre, for which he is receiving 16 million pounds sterling of National Lottery funding. He is seen as something of a swindler, but is still regarded with affection. He certainly has a talent for self-promotion, but has undeniably achieved a great deal.
