The language barrier
Article Abstract:
Many primary schools in the UK are becoming increasingly concerned about the growing use of bad language and innuendo by their pupils. Research indicates that verbal abuse has become a significant reason for children being excluded from primary schools. Many observers attribute this trend to the fact that children watch television programmes aimed at adults and then copy inappropriate language patterns. Some children naturally use bad language in the home, and find it hard to adopt to stricter rules on language at school.

Too much pressure, much too young
Article Abstract:
League tables and Statutory Assessment Tests are leading to stress in pupils at primary schools in the UK. Pupils are very aware that their performance in tests reflects both on them and their school, and this makes them feel under pressure. Some pupils react by deliberately slowing down when working, while others suffer physical problems such as headaches. Some primary schools are responding to this problem by making stress management an integral part of the curriculum.

Happy families are better than nannies
Article Abstract:
It was once common for members of extended families to live close to each other, and care of the children was therefore easily shared. In recent years, families have tended to live further apart, and more now rely on nannies. However, some families are now taking the decision to reunite, living close together so that grandparents, for example, can take care of the youngest members of the family while parents go out to work.
