London's giant panda play the mating game
Article Abstract:
London Zoo has a new 20 million pounds sterling strategy for the rest of the 1990's and needs to keep up the number of visitors. A baby panda would be a big attraction but Ming Ming, 14, has had eight artificial inseminations without producing a baby. Mating with Bao Bao in 1992 was so fierce that she needed surgery. Staff monitor her oestrogen levels for oestrus in late February. She may have artificial insemination again, with a laparoscopy.

Covering itself in glory
Article Abstract:
Environmental organisation Greenpeace believes strongly in using extensive media coverage to support its campaigns. It has a large archive of still and moving images, and also produces books. It manages to attract a lot of news coverage, and has an extremely efficient public relations department. It has sometimes attracted criticism from people who believe that it manipulates the media.
