The pain that shaped a star Passion
Article Abstract:
Singer Sophie B. Hawkins was initially quite concerned about the release of the documentary 'The Cream Will Rise.' This was initially intended to be a simple documentary covering her 1996 'Moxy Tour' across the US, but following an interview with her mother developed into a fascinating insight into her very unhappy childhood. It reveals that she was abused by a neighbour as a child and that she had affairs with her teachers at the age of 10 and 11. She feels that she would not have become the type of singer and songwriter she is today if it had not been for her childhood experiences.

By Dawn's bright light
Article Abstract:
Dawn Upshaw is a soprano from Nashville, TN, who is in the UK in summer 1996 to perform at Glyndebourne in 'Theodora', a Handel opera, produced by Peter Sellars, to sing popular songs and operatic arias at the Promenade concerts, and to perform in 'Dawn at Dusk', a cabaret at the Albert Hall. Upshaw, who enjoys working with Sellars because he is always always reevaluating and making changes, is a person with no edge. She is married to a musicologist and has two children.
