The shape of things to come
Article Abstract:
Advanced body-scanning technology will make it possible for ordinary people to purchase made-to-measure, customized clothing from virtual stores via the Internet. A body scan can be carried out very quickly, and the measurements can be used many times. A database containing up-to-date information about body size and shape has been compiled by researchers at the Computer Clothing Research Centre at Nottingham Trent University, England, using a Symcad electronic measuring booth developed by French concern Telmat.

Technology replaces the twitching curtain
Article Abstract:
Scanners are very popular in the UK for personal listening in to civil aviation frequencies, Citizen's Band Radio, public radio broadcasts and ship to shore weather reports. It is against the law to listen fo official or private conversations. Offenders can be fined and sentenced to up to two years in prison. Scanners cannot be monitored as they do not transmit. Frequencies which are illegal to listen to are included in the UK Scanning Directory.

Curtain's up at the bawdy Globe
Article Abstract:
Some observers have expressed fears that the rebuilt Globe theatre in London, England, will be little more than a mock-Elizabethan theme park. However, it must be remembered that Shakespeare's original Globe theatre was almost a theme park in its day, and that any historical undertaking of this kind must involve a certain element of nostalgia. There is no real reason why this theatre cannot also be the location for truly vibrant productions.
