The text is awful. The action irrelevant. Who says half an opera is better than none?
Article Abstract:
The English National Opera (ENO) has started a new production of Purcell's 'The Fairy Queen.' This is the work of choreographer Quinny Sacks and director David Pountney, who first considered the project in Oct 1992. They encountered some difficulties with the text, and there were also a number of other restricting factors, such as the need to adapt the shaping of the production to the size of the London Coliseum. The text has largely been abandoned, and the narration is given in music and movement.
