Employers in the UK are already seeking staff to work on New Year's Eve 1999. Many parties will take place to mark the transition into the new millennium, and this means that there is very strong demand for waiters, waitresses, bar staff, taxi drivers and similar staff. Many of these people do not wish to work on New Year's Eve, which means that those who are willing to do so can demand very large payments. There will also be very strong demand for entertainers, childminders and nannies and people able to deal with year 2000 computer date change problems.

What chance is there of a fair trial for Ocalan in Turkey?

Article Abstract:

It will be almost impossible for Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan to receive a fair trial in Turkey. His rights and those of his lawyers have already been extensively violated. These violations include the fact that his lawyers have not been allowed to meet with him privately since Feb 25, 1999, and have only been able to spend two hours a week with him. They have also been intimidated and attacked. The Kurds who are spread across Turkey and living in difficult circumstances will eventually rebel against their treatment by the authorities.
