Time to live, time to die
Article Abstract:
There are very mixed views in the medical profession about the mercy-killing of terminally ill patients. Some doctors believe that patients who seek to have their lives brought to an end artificially are depressed, and that depression can be effectively treated. Others feel that there is no reason why a patient should not be able to be released quickly from a life of pain and suffering. It is not legal for doctors to undertake mercy-killing, but it is legal for them to prescribe large doses of painkillers which will in any case shorten the patient's life.

Should a child be born to save another?
Article Abstract:
The UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) must consider a case in which parents wish to use genetic screening to select an embryo that would be a donor for an existing sibling. It would be wrong for the HFEA to prevent this happening unless it can prove that it would cause significant damage to the family's existing children or to the new baby.
