The impossible monument
Article Abstract:
German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Mayor of Berlin, Germany, Eberhard Diepgen have decided to postpone the decision on whether to approve American architect Peter Eisenman's design for a Holocaust monument on a site next to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany. This project has attracted considerable controversy, with some observers feeling that it would absolve Germany of the need to confront its recent past. Public opinion currently seems to be against the monument ever being constructed.
