Twenty-five years of Ireland's Dr No
Article Abstract:
Dr Ian Paisley, who founded Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist party in 1971, remains a key figure in Northern Irish politics as a fundamentalist Protestant. His continued presence is a significant obstacle to the reaching of a peace agreement there. He remains very firm in his views that the IRA represents a danger to Northern Ireland and that Irish Protestants, unable to trust the British government, must act alone to protect their heritage.

Architect of a new nation
Article Abstract:
Social Democratic and Labour party leader John Hume established his influence by becoming a significant figure not only in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but also in Dublin, Ireland, London, England, and in Europe and the US. He took a great personal risk in attempting to establish the peace process, but gained the support of many ordinary people in doing so. His main success has been in making northern Irish nationalism a vibrant political force.
