UK E-commerce depends on simplicity
Article Abstract:
With 81% of potential Internet users feeling they need special training before tackling the Web, the growth of electronic commerce in the UK will depend on it being easy to use, according to a survey by NOP Business. The survey of 9,000 adults in Germany, France and the UK, found that security and available Web sites were the main concerns of potential e-commerce users in France and Germany. However, throughout Europe, people using the Internet are starting to represent the general population more closely rather than just being computer fans. Typical users come from relatively well-off households with children and tend to be older and more widely educated than in the past. *

UK: CALLS FOR ELECTRICITY TRADING DELAY
Article Abstract:
Electricity industry executives have called for a delay in the introduction of a new electricity trading system, in which the electricity pool will be replaced by spot and future markets and a National Grid-run balancing system will take effect, which is due to go live on 21 November 2000, saying that the computer systems will not have been properly tested by this date. However, the UK government has made it clear that it anticipates the system being introduced as planned, and has rejected the executives' suggestion that the changeover be delayed until February or March 2001.
