Article Abstract:
UK government efforts to ease poverty will be questioned in three reports, including one social exclusion audit revealing that one in three youngsters still exist in such surroundings. The Department of Social Security will reveal its audit in September 2000, showing that although progress has been achieved over the past three years, one in five children exist in homes where no one is employed. A second study will show that social exclusion is at its worst in the NorthEast, while in London, 27% of youngsters lived in homes where nobody is at work, compared with a mere 10% of children in the SouthEast. The third report will urge move help to the least well-off pensioners to be provided by the government, citing widespread poverty with regard to such citizens.
