IBM and seven technology companies are creating a business-to-business online market called e2open.com. It will be an online marketplace for member companies and customers to buy and sell components in consumer electronics, computers and telecom equipment. The partner companies are Japan's Matsushita Electric, Hitachi and Toshiba; South Korea's LG Electronics; Canada's Nortel Networks and US Selectron and Seagate Technology.

Cable & Wireless (C&W), the UK telecommunications group, and the US-based producer of e-commerce products, Smith-Gardner, are to embark on an online joint venture. Their collaboration aims to improve access to Internet-based services for Smith-Gardner clients, while maximising the availability of C&W's Internet and data services range. C&W's online services, including Web hosting and Internet and digital subscriber line access, will be offered in conjunction with Smith-Gardner's WebOrder system, to create an integrated online solution.
