Mobutu takes the money and runs to a safe haven
Article Abstract:
Rebel troops led by Laurent Kabila are set to enter Kinshasa, Zaire, and this has prompted President Mobutu Sese Seko to flee the capital. It is believed that he will make a stopover in Gbadolite, Zaire, before travelling on to Morocco and then to his villa on the French Riviera. His departure comes after considerable pressure from western diplomats to resign. The residents of Kinshasa are relieved that Mobutu has left, and are looking forward to a better life.

Mobutu's men face their fate as boy soldiers in flip-flops reach their goal; what price loyalty as a new order takes over?
Article Abstract:
Rebel troops led by Laurent Kabila have now secured Kinshasa, the capital of Zaire. Local people have warmly welcomed the troops, and there is an atmosphere of relief that President Mobutu has been forced to leave the city. They are also giving strong support to Etienne Tshisekedi, a very popular opposition figure. However, some observers are still very cynical about the ability of the rebel forces to deal with the very serious problems which Zaire faces.
