'We've been sold out but we can't walk away now.' (Belfast Protestants react to Framework Document)
Article Abstract:
Mainstream Unionist politicians in Northern Ireland have expressed extreme reactions to the Framework Document, which they see as a betrayal of the Unionist community. However, most grassroots Unionists have not reacted as violently as their leaders, and are prepared to wait and see what emerges from future negotiations. They state that Rev Ian Paisley no longer speaks for working-class Protestants, and that they listen instead to David Ervine, spokesman of the Progressive Unionist Party.

Apartheid's last leader quits his sinking party
Article Abstract:
The fortunes of the South African National Party are unlikely to be revived by the fact that FW de Klerk has decided to resign as its leader. He feels that his resignation will benefit the party, as he is associated with the country's negative political past, but this view is not widely shared. The National Party is seriously divided between conservatives and reformers, and has been unable to become a viable opposition force to the ANC.
