What does it take to keep control of a class?
Article Abstract:
The same class of children can be very well behaved for one teacher and completely unruly for another and there are some guidelines that should be followed to maximise teacher-child cooperation. Teachers should establish basic rules as soon as possible such as leaving seats without permission. If rules are not set out the children might test the limit by deliberate misbehaviour. Teachers should respond to and get to know each class but any confrontation with individual pupils is much better done after class in privacy. Children react badly to being shown up in front of their peers.

Worth the bovver
Article Abstract:
Former state school pupils currently account for 46% of undergraduates at Cambridge University, with the rest coming from independent schools. Many state school pupils believe that they would not fit in well at Cambridge University, as they regard it as a university only for children from privileged backgrounds. They also feel that they would not have the necessary academic qualifications to enter Cambridge University. The university is now making considerable efforts to dispel these myths and to encourage more applications from state school pupils.

The sweet spell of success
Article Abstract:
The government is changing spelling requirements of school children. The National Curriculum Council recommends the phonic and the look and learn methods of teaching spelling. Margaret Peters' research in 1970 found that primary school children's spelling varies with their visual perception and verbal intelligence. The technique for teaching visual memory development is called 'look, cover, write, check.'
