What sort of life for a place of death?
Article Abstract:
Sachsenhausen, near Berlin, Germany, which was the Nazi headquarters that organised the concentration camp in 1941, may be redeveloped as a housing scheme. Oranienburg council needs to attract people and prosperity to the area. Six architects have submitted plans for an estate of 8,000 houses. Polish architect Daniel Libeskind, who doubts whether anyone would wish to live there, suggests demolishing the SS barracks, leaving ruins surrounded by a lake, forest and paths. Commercial developers are interested in this plan because it would offer land for educational and artistic training centres.

Death becomes him
Article Abstract:
Damien Hirst has become one of the most famous artists in the UK, and recently won the 1995 Turner prize. However, he is now set to move into film. He has received a commission from the Hayward Gallery and the British Film Institute (BFI) for a 20-minute film entitled 'Is Mr Death In?,' which will be shown at an exhibition opening on Feb 22, 1996, at the Hayward Gallery. Some observers have expressed scepticism about his ability to produce a film, but he is approaching the project with great efficiency.

Earth Centre awakens revival
Article Abstract:
Doncaster has proved to be a very good location for the Earth Centre, a project devised by former Greenpeace director Jonathan Smales. The town can be reached easily by many people, and the Earth Centre itself is connected directly by rail on a branch line from Doncaster. It is situated on a site measuring four miles by around one mile, and will eventually include an organic farm, a museum and entertainment facilities.
