What the French really fear: 'le style Conran.' (restaurants in Paris, France, face competition from Sir Terence Conran)(Column)
Article Abstract:
Restaurateurs in France have traditionally been very cynical about their counterparts in the UK. However, their confidence in their own abilities has been shaken by the great success of Sir Terence Conran's restaurants in London, England. Conran is now set to compete directly with leading restaurateurs in Paris, France, as he sets up an expensive restaurant on the Left Bank of the city. French restaurateurs fear that he will be very successful with a combination of very high quality food with a relaxed, young atmosphere.

Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common for teenagers from deprived suburbs of Paris, France, to be involved in violent clashes with the police. Where this violence is associated with the 1998 World Cup, there is a danger that similar outbreaks will occur in other World Cup host cities. There is considerable frustration among young people in these suburbs, who are extremely interested in football, that they are being excluded from the World Cup because they cannot afford to buy tickets.
