When innocent touches put a teacher at risk
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common in the UK for male teachers to be accused by children of sexual or physical assault. Such an accusation can have a very negative impact on that teacher's career, even if he is later found to be innocent. Some observers believe that this trend is being fuelled by media coverage of child abuse issues, with adults responsible for caring for children, particularly men, now being widely distrusted. Others attribute the trend to the poor image of teachers. Some children make a false accusation in order to deflect attention from their own wrongdoings, while others genuinely misinterpret an innocent situation.
