When men get the wrong idea
Article Abstract:
It is common in the UK for women to be regarded as unable to give reliable evidence in rape trials. This view is being reinforced through the current story line in the soap opera 'Brookside,' in which one of the characters is accused of using a drug as a means to carry out a rape. Many women who have been raped are unwilling to press charges, as they feel that they will not be believed and that their attacker will not be convicted.

A victim for our times
Article Abstract:
The implications of the murder of eight-year-old Sarah Payne are discussed. This crime, for which Roy Whiting has been convicted, has attracted a very strong reaction across the whole of society. However, this does not mean that it is necessarily a good basis on which to implement significant changes in the law regarding the supervision of sex offenders.
