When you can't see the lighthouse for the rocks
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors have shown great interest in Japanese stocks so far in 1996, investing around $20 million in the first two and a half months of the year. However, this enthusiasm has not been shared by Japanese investors. This comes at a time when the Tokyo Stock Exchange is shown strong basis health, and when foreign investors are almost afraid not to own Japanese stocks. More recently, there have been signs that Japanese investors are buying while foreigners are selling Japanese stocks.

Particular concern is being caused by the long-term crisis in Japan's banks.

Article Abstract:
There have been few significant developments in Asia in 1996, but this should not necessarily be interpreted as a sign that the region is becoming more stable. Significant readjustments are being made in Asia as communism wanes, but there are still serious ideological differences in the region. The key factor will be developments in China, which is regarded as a source of both fear and opportunity by Asean countries.
