Where great art is stock-in-trade
Article Abstract:
The commercial Waddington Galleries, 11 Cork Street, London has a continuous rolling display of great 20th century works of art. Its stock is excellent and includes examples of Cubist, Surrealist, Abstract, Expressionist and other styles forms of modern art. Stock exhibitions are pleasurable because the works may never be seen again after their sale to a private buyer. Art is experienced in a different way from in a museum, partly through unusual juxtapositions. Placing new art beside acknowledged masters demonstrates its relative quality, and the influence of different schools can be appreciated.

Conjuring art out of thin air
Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery in Liverpool, England, is currently holding a retrospective of the work of Rachel Whiteread, an artist who has attracted considerable attention with her very original approach. Exhibits include 'Untitled (One Hundred Spaces),' which is made up 100 translucent resin casts of the spaces under tables and chairs, set out in 10 rows of 10, and 'Closet,' the cast of the inside of an old wardrobe which has been wrapped in black felt. Her work resembles a solid version of photography, and shows that she is basically a realist.

Acting from anterior motives
Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery in London, England, is currently holding an exhibition of the works produced by abstract artist Hans Hartung in the period 1922-1956. The exhibition attempts to show Hartung as a pioneer in the development of painting in the 20th century. It is stated that his work had a key influence on the aesthetic attitudes of some of the most respected artists of the 1950s. However, some observers feel that Hartung was not really so influential, and that he actually gained inspiration from other artists.
