Who's who and who isn't
Article Abstract:
The latest edition of 'Who's Who' includes people who would not have been mentioned in previous editions, such as comedian Lenny Henry and former footballer Gary Lineker. Some people are allocated an entry by right. These include judges, MPs, civil servants above a certain grade and some university professors. Others are entered after being recommended by newspaper editors. This approach means that this book does not really reflect the vitality and variety of modern Britain.

Forget the politics, feel the quality of life
Article Abstract:
The city of Belfast, Northern Ireland, has many thriving businesses. It was not as extensively affected by recession as many other cities in the UK, and now offers a high standard of living. In Northern Ireland as a whole, the majority of people live close to their place of work and to good schools, and the average mortgage is only around 55,000 pounds sterling. The countryside remains unspoiled by tourism, and some people can afford second homes.

A time to pause and remember
Article Abstract:
The Royal British Legion is campaigning to encourage British people to spend two minutes in silence at the 11th hour on the 11th of November to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended the 1914-1918 war. This follows the success of the call for a two-minute silence on the 50th anniversary of VE Day. The organisation is particularly keen that respect for those who died in this war should not fade as memories of it diminish.
