Will men be the winners once again?
Article Abstract:
Women's soccer has become extremely popular in the US, with 100,000 girls having begun to play soccer between 1990 and 1997 and the pace having speeded up since then. The involvement of women in soccer can be attributed to the long-standing male domination of team sports in the US and efforts to balance this out. There has been a significant rise in girls' participation in sport, but this does not mean that women's team sports are about to enter the mainstream, despite what sports and social commentators would like to believe.
