Women from a broken home?
Article Abstract:
UK charity Refuge, which assists victims of domestic violence, has seen the resignation of three of its trustees. This follows conflict within the charity over whether memories of abuse which emerge during therapy are 'false' or 'recovered.' Sandra Horley, the head of Refuge, does not believe that Lady Parker, one of the people who has resigned as a trustee, should have been associated with Refuge while also working as the chair of the False Memory Society. Refuge does not question whether the women to whom it gives sanctuary are telling the truth, while the False Memory Society believes that allegations of abuse should be initially treated as false.

Do we need Channel 5?
Article Abstract:
The UK's Channel 5 television station, which is set to begin broadcasting in Jan 1997, has attracted mixed reactions. Advertisers welcome the creation of a new station, as there is currently a lack of airtime on ITV and Channel 4, and some observers feel that a national channel which offers both entertainment and factual programming will be successful. However, it will have to invest heavily in retuning around 5 million video recorders before it can begin broadcasting, and will have a very limited programming budget.
