Who should own the voice of Scotland?
Article Abstract:
The Scotsman newspaper, founded in1817, has come to be widely regarded as Scotland's national newspaper, even though Scotlandtends to have city-based newspapers rather than national ones. It has played a key role in thedebate over Scottish Home Rule, supporting government of the people, by and for the people. There is now concern about the newspaper's future role in expressing Scottish views, as itappears to be becoming a possible takeover target for English-based buyers who do not supportHome Rule.

Behold the backlash, sabres drawn
Article Abstract:
Many prominent figures in public life have expressed critical views on the Scott inquiry, which was set up in 1992 to investigate the scandal over the cover-up of arms sales to Iraq. The inquiry's report has been scathing about many aspects of government in the UK, and key politicians have been placed on the defensive. They should be very careful about dismissing the Scott inquiry, however, as there is considerable suspicion about their motives.
