Your new car that you will never own
Article Abstract:
Most private car owners in the UK still use bank loans or hire purchase to fund the purchase of a new car. However, this may change as the automotive contract hire and leasing industry makes more effort to promote its services. Contract hire is initially likely to become established through the corporate sector, with employers offering contract hire for staff who are not eligible for a company car or who have chosen a cash alternative. However, new finance packages are also likely to be made available directly to personal customers.

Question: why a buy a car when you can lease one?
Article Abstract:
The launch by Ford on Aug 01, 1995, of its Acumen personal leasing plan through its dealership will herald the entry of personal leasing into the UK. This has been made possible by the decision by the government to abolish VAT on leasing charges, allowing manufacturers to pass the savings on to the consumer. Under the Acumen scheme, no deposit will be required, and it is therefore likely to attract people who have no savings. Other manufacturers are now working on similar schemes.

Europe faces severe threat from Pacific Rim
Article Abstract:
Western European car manufacturers which are currently struggling will have to seek partnership agreements or be taken over if they are to survive growing competition from Japan and Pacific Rim countries over the next few years. Production in the Pacific Rim region is set to increase greatly, according to a report from the Economist Intelligence Unit, while Japanese manufacturers will see their share of the European market rise to 14% by the end of the 1990s.
