Article Abstract:
Older people, especially men, are not as well informed on fitness and health issues as younger generations. In recognition of this, various strategies are being set up to encourage older people to engage in sport and exercise. Reference is made to the social and physical benefits of activities such as 'health walks'.

Issues concerning the tone of the British 2001 election campaigns are presented, with reference to the increasing numbers of negative personal insults. Concern is expressed for a lack of vision and belief in the future, and it is predicted that there will be a poor turnout on voting day.
