Memory tests conducted on several subjects by Henry L. Roediger III and Kathleen B. McDermot show that humans recall false memories that they believed to have experienced in the past. Human memory was also found to be highly inaccurate and people have a tendency to recall things that never happened.

Advances are being made in land mine detection technology, even as the US remains ambivalent in international efforts to ban its use. Mine detection technology currently being developed utilizes infra-red detectors, remotely-operated vehicles, chemical sniffers and genetically-engineered bacteria.
