Catching up on composites
Article Abstract:
The US construction industry hopes to be at par with Japan and Germany in the use of composite materials in civil engineering projects. Civil engineers are enthusiastic with the idea of using composites as construction materials in rehabilitation and retrofitting projects. Experiments and environmental testing activities are being conducted to assess the performance of composites in corrosive and dynamic environments. Researchers hope that their findings will help bring down the costs associated with composite fiber manufacturing.
