Bioconcentration of LAS: experimental determination and extrapolation to environmental mixtures
Article Abstract:
The bioconcentration of linear alkylbenzenesulfonate (LAS) was investigated to determine the surfactant's potential to bioaccumulate in aquatic organisms. Results revealed that bioconcentration factors was well as uptake rate constants increase when log Kow is increased. Elimination rate constants, however, were observed to be unaffected by log Kow. The bioconcentration potential of LAS mixtures are greatly lessened by environmental processes.
