Combat fatigue
Article Abstract:
The UK Dept of Trade and Industry had agreed in 1993 to support research on design techniques of optimizing the application of metallic materials in multiaxially stressed automobile components. The results of the project were intended to be integrated into an advanced suite of fatigue design software to be employed with finite element analysis systems. Multiaxial fatigue analysis software developer John Draper and Associates completed the first version of the software called FE-SAFE in Jan 1995.

Out of the arc
Article Abstract:
Magnetically impelled arc butt (MIAB) welding is one of the quickest ways to weld tube to tube joints and tube to flange joints. It provides high welding rates while welding time is only 10% of the time required for resistance, arc and friction welding. The process involves using magnetic field to scan welding arcs along a joint. However, one drawback of MIAB is the difficulty of welding wall thicknesses over 6 mm.

Fatigue crack initiation behaviour of welded AA5083 in a seawater environment
Article Abstract:
The influence of a seawater environment in combination with a welded state is described alongwith fatigue limits and SN-curves. A constructive solution is to avoid the occurrence of pores by changing the welding techniques.
