Computer use-innovativeness: cognition and content

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate consumer software consumption within organizational contexts to test a contingency model of consumer innovativeness proposed by theoreticians D.F. Midgley and G.R. Dowling. The two argue that new product adoption is explained by innovation decisions which are independent of the communicated experience of other people. Results of the study confirmed the results of previous research that adaption-innovation and personal involvement explain computer use but did not support the Midgley-Dowling theory.

Article Abstract:

Modern technologies have profoundly affected society, yet its long-term effects have not been fully understood. Thus, technology is reconsidered in light of its effect on long-term sustainability. One such perspective points out the mixed results brought about by technological change, especially if the environment is considered. In addition, the pace of innovations leaves political and economic systems far behind which raises the question of who is in control in vital decision-making processes.
