Cooper Union aids ex-Soviet engineers
Article Abstract:
The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Mount Sinai Medical School and New York Medical School have organized studies and programs to help immigrant engineers and scientists from the former USSR. These programs teach the immigrants the basic things that will enable them to practice their profession and increase their chances of success in the US. These only require that an immigrant has an engineering degree and comprehends conversational language. The programs also offer scientific and technological courses and provide access to lab and computer equipment.

Why engineers don't run things
Article Abstract:
Engineers have a wrong perception of the skills needed to get promoted to upper management. They believe that technical ability is the most important factor in advancing careers. But surveys conducted by Shane Premeaux and Ray Comish show that technical and interpersonal relations skills are necessary to be get into middle management. Another survey done by M.W. McCall, Jr and M.M. Lombardo in 1979 showed that integrity and social skills are the most crucial factors. Thismay indicate that engineers think that current job skills can be used in other fields.

The three titles which are resisted by the construction officials are those which prevent employment discrimination, provide accessibility of public programs and services to disabled persons and make public services available to the disabled. Any failure to meet the requirements will be considered as discrimination against the disabled.
