Gary Kasparov, regarded by many as the greatest chess player in the game's history, is slated to test his chess-playing skills with a computer, IBM Corp.'s Deep Blue, on Feb. 10-17, 1996 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Deep Blue is touted as the most powerful chess computer, a distinction that Kasparov hopes to prove wrong.

Sony Corp. and Philips Electronics N.V. have developed a new digital video disc format capable of storing a minimum of 3.7 gigabytes of information and offering superior picture quality. The product can store multichannel sound and different languages and can be played on 4:3 or 16:9 screen formats.
