Lubricants
Article Abstract:
Synthetic lubricants are being increasingly used in preference to petroleum-based lubricants due to their superior qualities and environmental aspects. Operating temperature for synthetic oils range from -50 to 220 degrees centigrade compared to -15 to 120 degrees centigrade for standard lubricants. Synthetic lubricants have higher flash points and are therefore more fire resistant, while low corrosivity, high viscosity index and hydrolytic stability are other advantages. Synthetic lubricants are costlier but maintenance, insurance, user and replacement costs are restricted because of its fire resistant qualities. Biodegradable synthetic lubricants have great implications for industry and the environment.

Going into service
Article Abstract:
An EC directive will give statutory protection against defective services to all consumers. It covers all non-manufacturing activities, including advice, erection work, installation and commissioning, but excluding the transfer of real or intellectual property rights, construction and waste services. The directive, to be implemented in national law by 1994, requires actual negligence for liability but lays the burden of proof on the service provider.
