Future proofing: the concept of key skills is gaining increasing recognition
Article Abstract:
A report by the Institute for Employment Studies has identified a new set of skills, called key skills, which is reportedly being proposed by the UK government as a vital part of post-16 education and training. The six skills are communication, application of numbers, information technology (IT), working with others, improving own learning and performance and, problem solving. Together, these skills should enable the employee to apply basic literacy, numeracy and IT at work and develop skills which would enable the employee to work effectively, either alone or with others.
