Thor Froslev founded the annual Brackendale Winter Eagle Festival in British Columbia to gain support for the protection of the bald eagle. His efforts led to a province-wide campaign to preserve the eagle's habitat and made Brackendale one of the most popular wildlife attractions in North America.

Nature's wrecking crew

Termites may be destructive animals, but they also bring benefits to nature. Since termites eat dead wood, they contribute to the recycling of trees in forests. Most of the approximately 2000 known species can be found in tropical and subtropical areas, except the Pacific dampwood of North America.

A spiny mystery
Article Abstract:
The spines of the sea urchin are strong without being brittle because of the way they are formed. The spines, formed from calcite, are arranged in a crystal lattice-like formation, with protein filling the spaces between the lattices.
