Hunting for animal alternatives
Article Abstract:
The movement to find alternatives to the use of animals in toxicity testing and other research faces several obstacles. Regulatory approval of new methods is slow and intimidation by animal-rightists has caused some backlash, but in many cases there seems to be no substitute to measuring the response of a living animal.

No women chemists at women's college
Article Abstract:
The denial of tenure to a Smith College female faculty member illustrates a common problem in academia: the lack of tenured women professors. Sharon Palmer, 37, was denied tenure in spite of support from students. Critics believe this sends the wrong message to female students, particularly at a women's college.
